Shorter days, frigid nights, dreaming of summertime delights. The holidays are over and the routine of the New Year starts to settle in. As the anticipation of swimsuit season grows, the battle to fight off winter blues becomes harder. Although there are a few more weeks until our cars are sprinkled with a yellow dusting and dogwoods blossom from the bare trees; here are a couple of ways to combat those pesky winter blues.
In preparation for the warm southern climate that we’ve become accustomed to (and is, hopefully, right around the corner), our newest items in the social shop are helping to channel those spring-time-vibes.
Enjoy hot cocoa while binge-watching your favorite shows. This cold-weather treat warms you from the inside out. The aroma of chocolate and melted marshmallows is a great combination for a cozy night in.
Get some sun
The few days that we can enjoy without an overcast sky during the winter are precious. If the sun is out, you should be also. Vitamin-D not only boosts your mood but boosts your immune system to help keep away the germs of flu season.
Since annual spring cleaning is approaching, take the time that you would spend at home to reorganize. Cleaning up the unnecessary junk that piled up from the post-holiday season can re-energize and decrease fatigue.
Spending time with friends and family always feeds the soul. Go to the movies. Go shopping. Grab some food at your favorite restaurant. A change of scenery with the people you love can always ward off winter blues. Focus on good laughs and fun memories that are created when you’re with loved ones. Staying social and avoiding isolation will really boosts your spirits.
As with every New Year’s resolution to shed those pounds that you promised yourself, exercising can keep you in good spirits. Get your blood pumping and mind stimulated with physical activity. People who are more active have lower stress and anxiety levels. Put on your favorite playlist on and go for a walk. Even grabbing a friend to join you to work-out with will increase your mood and productivity.
