You've decided to host a wine and cheese party, now it's time to plan the menu. Easy right...cheese and wine. Well, you are partly right. There are actually some cheeses that pair better with certain wines.
Chardonnay - mild cheddar and smoked mozzarella
Riesling - Brie and Camembert
Sauvignon Blanc - Gorgonzola, Roquefort, goat and Comte
Champagne or Sparkling Wine - Brie, Camembert and Fontina
Pinot Noir - Comte and nutty cow cheeses
Cabernet Sauvignon - sharp Cheddar, Swiss, and Asiago
Merlot - sharp Cheddar, Gouda and Monterey Jack
Malbec - Edam and Gouda
Now that you have planned the wine and cheese, let's talk about a few other items to have on hand.
Crackers (whole grains and butter) and crusty breads (baguettes or Italian bread) are great to compliment the wine and cheese. Also think about adding some salami slices or smoked sausage. As far as fruits go, you can choose from grapes, melons, apples, berries and figs. I would look at what fruits are in season when deciding. I usually pair all of these together on one tray and spread them throughout the house.
Consider putting dishes of olives and pickles and peanuts, cashews or almonds around for people to nibble on.
Finally, chocolate is never a bad thing but paired with wine, it can be amazing.
Now that you have your menu, all that you need is a shopping list.
