If you are one of the lucky ones, your holiday shopping is finished and all you have left to do is the wrapping. Growing up, my mother would wrap all of our packages in either solid paper with plaid ribbon or plaid paper with solid ribbon. My father and I would laugh each year as any presents that didn't match the theme would be put towards the back. My mother was also notorious for not putting a name on the package so that dad and I didn't know who it was for.
Today, I tend to follow my mother's traditions with a little bit of a twist. I love wide stripe or plaid paper with matching solid ribbon. This year, I create some custom paper which included some fun designs. I also tried to match the paper with gift tags from our shop. I think I did a pretty good job.
I ship a lot of my packages, so I try to make my ribbons flat but for those of you that are delivering their packages locally, thinking about big pretty bows, as well as add ons like a piece of fresh mistletoe or a jingle bell. For a child's package, think about a toy car or candy cane.
If you are giving a bottle of wine as a gift, think about a fun wine tag instead of a bag and give it with a cute set of disposable coasters for the holiday. If you are giving a handmade item like cookies, loaf of bread, muffins or a cake, think about wrapping the items in plastic wrap with a pretty ribbon and fun gift tag.
If you are headed to a holiday party and taking something with you, think about purchasing a holiday disposable tray or dish so that the hostess doesn't have to worry about returning your tray. Dollar Stores are a great place to find inexpensive dishes to use.
One last suggestion before I go...before you sit down at the table or get down on the floor to wrap, make sure you have everything you need at your fingertips. Don't forget the scissors and tape when you are getting together the paper, gift tags and notions.
You also might want to include a holiday candle, a cup of warm cider or cocoa and Christmas music or a Holiday movie to get you in the mood. Make the time fun!
