Summertime is meant for creating memories that remind you of the warm nights with friends. Whether you are enjoying a BBQ in the backyard or roasting marshmallows around a fire pit, the time you spend and laughs you share with friends and family will be unforgettable. As the climate grows warmer, the urge for weekend getaways to see friends increase. Chances are, for the upcoming summer months, you’ll receive a call from an old friend, family or the in-laws saying that they will be coming to town for a visit. And as you prepare for their arrival, here are a couple of things to keep in mind for their quarters.
Hosting your closest friends and family can be seemingly easy, but it is your job as the host to make them feel comfortable. Although you are at home, they are on vacation and want to feel like there was some thought put into them coming to visit.
This is where the many seasons of Fixer Upper on HGTV come in handy. Decorate the room with colors that are cohesive throughout the theme of the room. A Lucite tray with matching coasters to place on the dresser with a glass of wine can help kick off the weekend.
Make the bed
The bed is focal point of the room. There’s nothing like your own bed, with the imprint of your body that engulfs you into slumber. Make sure that there is fresh linen and a plethora of large pillows.
We’ve all left an essential item sitting on the bathroom sink at home right before a trip. Stock up on toothbrushes, toothpaste and mouthwash to avoid pesky trips to the local convenient store to grab last minute necessities.
We’ve discussed the hostess point of view above, but as guests in someone’s home there are a few rules of etiquette as well.
Arrive with a gift
Show your appreciation for your gracious host for opening their home. A small plant, bottle of wine or even a thank you card that says, “Thank you for allowing me to come into your space.”
It can be easy to fall into habits you have at home, but make sure to keep the area tidy that you reside in at their home. When having a drink, use coasters to prevent from water stains on the furniture. Upon departure, strip the bed of linens and include the bathroom towels used during your stay to save them time when cleaning the room.
Go with the flow
Though there may be some ideas of activities for you all to do together, make sure your host knows that you are willing to do whatever fits into their schedule.
