You guys know me by now and know that two of my favorite things are exposed brick and hardwood floors. Well, as you learn more about the Stockroom at 230 and see more of their great photos, you will know why I am so excited about this venue. If you are in the Raleigh, NC area and looking for a wedding venue, this vendor spotlight, is just for you.
The Stockroom at 230 was originally built in 1902 and then turned into a dime store in the 1920s. What made you decide to open an event space?
Empire Properties (who owns The Stockroom at 230) is passionate about preserving Raleigh’s history by renovating historic buildings in order to revitalize Downtown Raleigh. The Stockroom at 230 was originally the actual stockroom for the dime store, McLellans. The open space and prime location on Fayetteville Street, makes this location perfect for a variety of events.
Do you feel your exposed bricks and rustic feel to be a current trend among couples in the Raleigh area?
Yes, the space will make anyone feel like a socialite and can be transformed to accommodate a night full of dancing and mingling or a sit-down dinner party. The Stockroom at 230 is one of the most unique and chic venues in Downtown Raleigh.
What else do you think makes you stand out among brides and grooms?
The floor-to-ceiling exposed brick walls, hardwood floors, and high lattice ceilings create an open, relaxed vibe. The textures are complimentary to many styles and visions and the couple can truly make the space their own.
As an older building, do you feel this limits you in anyway with regards to hosting events?
No, our venue is completely handicap accessible and fully functional. It has all of the modern amenities – restrooms, heating and air conditioning, electricity, Wi-Fi, etc.
How many weddings do you have in a year?
We have many weddings and events a year! We have 3 day wedding weekends (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays) almost every weekend and sometime we have weekday weddings too!
What is your favorite part about the weddings?
We love how weddings bring people together to create treasured memories. Nothing makes us happier than to see a couple glowing with happiness on their wedding day surround by their friends and family.
Do you have a favorite fun story?
That’s what is so amazing – every couple creates their own fun story in the space! It is too hard to choose one favorite! We have fun with each and every one of our couples. From the wedding who has Mr. and Ms. Wuf stop by to show their collegiate love to the wedding who uses our chalkboard wall as an interactive DIY photobooth, each wedding story is so unique and fun.
What different packages do you offer your couples?
We include tables, chairs, a sound system, and a wireless microphone with our rental. Couples can just have their reception with us or they can host both ceremony and reception in the space We also recently added a new venue, The Glass Box on the 5th Floor above The Stockroom at 230 which can be used as a bridal suite or rented separately from the wedding day for a bridal shower or rehearsal dinner. We give each couple several options for their big day!
How long in advance do you typically start working with a bride?
It really varies. We have had couples book 5 weeks before their big day to 2 years before the big day!
Do you provide someone dedicated to the couple on the day of the event to help them?
Yes, we have a Logistics Coordinator who assists with floor plans, vendor communication, and any questions that the couple has leading up to their big day. In addition to the Logistics Coordinator, we also have a Facility Manager on site for the duration of their event rental.
What size wedding is typical for you?
It ranges! We have seen weddings with 50-200 guests! We can accommodate up to 175 guests for a seated reception and up to 250 guests for standing cocktails and hor d'oeuvres.
What trends do you see with the current brides?
While we still see a lot of traditions, there are really no rules anymore for weddings! In our space, our brides initially love the rustic chic feel then add personality and custom touches. No two weddings look alike and our brides are always surprising us with incredible, new ideas.
You mentioned earlier that you have a new venue, The Glass Box. You also manage another property, All Saints Chapel. Can you tell us a little more about that.
All Saints Chapel is located near Moore Square close to Historic Oakwood. All Saints Chapel opened before The Stockroom at 230 in 2008.
If you could tell the brides one thing about your business, what would it be?
We are passionate about helping create experiences that are beyond expectation and we leave no detail overlooked.
Finally, for a couple on a budget, what is the one thing that they shouldn’t skimp on?
That depends on the couple. They have to decide what elements are the most important for their big day. Big foodies? Don’t skimp on the food and drinks. Love music? Get a killer DJ or band! And don’t forget that these moments have to be captured; your wedding photos capture these moments! Make sure that you love and connect with a great photographer who you trust to capture these moments. Also, a wedding planner is essential!
