With this past Tuesday being #nationaldriveinmovie day, I started to think about all the fun times I had at our local drive-in movie when I was a kid. The drive-in was generally open in the summer and stayed open for the nice months. When I was a kid, my parents and I would pile in the car with our popcorn and drinks, blanket and pillow, ready for a fun movie night. As I got older, my friends and I would make a night of it at the movies.
Sadly, the drive-in in Belmont, NC that I grew up going to is now closed. Surprisingly though, there are over 300 drive-in movies in the US, with North Carolina being the home to 5 and South Carolina, 3. I was lucky enough to find a great article - There Are 338 Drive-In Theaters Left in America — Here’s Where to Find Them . It is broken down by state and a link to each drive-in's website.
Now, you may ask, why did I share the website with you...easy...a week from Sunday, June 18th is Father's Day. Everyone can buy him a tie or cook him dinner but if you are lucky to live near one of the existing drive-in movies, how fun would it be to plan a picnic (don't forget the popcorn), pack the chairs and blankets and head to the closest drive-in movie.
I'd love to hear if you go and what you went to see. And to all the father's out there - Happy Father's Day!
